This is a quick and easy project that can be completed in a matter of hours. It’s also a great basic bag from which to add your own creative flair. Why not dye it, dip it, stripe it, use multi colored yarn, multi blended yarn, or even make your own yarn from rags. Worked on big needles in the most basic of stitches you’ll soon be making a bag for life for all your friends. Jo x

Ability: Easy

Skills required:
You will need to be able to work a basic knit stitch. There is some seaming involved but no special technique is really required although mattress stitch would provide a more professional finish.

Yarn type
I used 4 ends of double knit cotton mixed with 1 end of 100% Cotton twine. You could use any quality however the use of 1 end of cotton twine gives the end bag a bit of structure and durability. So try adding at least 1 end of twine to whatever you choose. My bag weighs 470g

Yarn weight
Super chunky /Bulky

Amount of yarn
Yarn approx. 255m/279yds in Super Chunky weight

Sizes
When working to my tension you should get a generous bag of 55cm wide and 55cm height

Materials required
Set of 12mm (US17) straight needles
Tapestry needle for sewing up
Safety pins
Yarn approx. 255m/279yds in Super Chunky weight

Tension
You really can work this bag to almost any tension, my advice would be to keep it tight so it keeps your groceries secure! This is the tension I’ve worked my bag to: In garter stitch using 12mm (US 17) needles: 6sts x 8.5rows over 10cm x 10cm (4 x 4in)
