Website content
We follow processes to ensure that the content of the website is accurate, products are clearly described and prices are correct. However, we reserve the right to not accept any order where the price on the website is not correct.
When buying any products involving yarn, please be aware that, although we make every effort to display the colours accurately, browsers and computers will inevitably display colours differently depending on their settings. As we use natural yarn, the colour of each batch may vary.
Disclaimer
We recommend you follow the tension given in each pattern. You should be prepared to use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension. This is particularly important if using US needles as the sizes given are approximate.
If alternative yarns are to be used we would recommend that you make adjustments (for example in needle size) to try and match the tension or at least satisfy yourself that you are happy working within what you consider to be acceptable tolerances. We have also suggested a yarn you can use. If you do not follow our suggestions we cannot be held responsible for any discrepancies in measurements. Please take the time to check your tension. This cautionary note is present on all patterns.

Protecting intellectual property, sharing and the manufacture for sale of Jo Storie Designs, Jo Storie Knits, and BareFaced Kits
We have been made aware of knitters selling garments based on Jo Storie patterns, retailers giving away copies of patterns to sell yarn and even some people sharing the patterns for free on websites.
In all cases this infringes on our intellectual property rights and can be a breach of copyright. However, we understand that sometimes this practice represents an important source of income for knitters and we want to be able to help without damaging our own business model. We are a small independent business dependent on pattern sales to cover costs and make a living. So, we want to try and find solutions that work for us all. Our costs include paying test knitters, pattern checkers, photographers and IT support and we need to recover these costs if we are to continue producing high quality patterns.
Here is our position on a few of the main challenges we face to our business:
- I want to sell my garments knitted using your patterns
All we ask is that you buy a pattern for each garment you make to sell. This way you do so with our blessing.
- I want to give away your patterns to sell my yarn
Again, we ask that for each pattern’s worth of yarn you sell , you buy the pattern to give away rather than just giving away a copy. We are aware of the margins available in selling yarn and this feels like a fair position.
- I want to photocopy your patterns or share around the electronic version
This instance is slightly more serious and is a form of piracy. Our position is that while we welcome you sharing our pattern with a friend as a goodwill gesture, blatant posting of our patterns for others to access free of charge or mass sharing represents a major threat to our business. We are sorry to have found instances where this has happened. It seems a particularly unreasonable and destructive way to engage with our business.
