"This is a classic ankle sock pattern with a soft textured chevron running down the front and back. It’s worked as an ankle sock but is very easily adapted to any length and would make a great boot sock."
- Jo Storie
Ability: Intermediate
Skills Required: You will need to be able to work in the round using double pointed needles (DPN’s) and know how to work a cable pattern. I’ve given row by row instructions and included symbols charts for easy reference. For an expert finish on the toe it is helpful to know how to graft live stitches, though not imperative.
Yarn Type: Zegna Baruffa 100% Cashmere in DK 3 x 25g ball = 108m/118yrds, but you could also use any DK sock yarn. On a Budget, try a cashmere blend like Rico Essential Cashlana DK 20% Cashmere/ 80% wool, 25g = 62m/67yrds, you’ll need around 5 balls
Yarn Weight: Double knit
Sizes to Fit:
One Size: I’ve worked this pattern to fit an average women’s UK shoe size of 4-6 (Eur. 37-40), but it’s very easy to adapt to fit a smaller or larger shoe size by working more of less rows after the heel shaping.
Actual finished measurements:
18cm/7in high (leg from cuff to heel)
23cm/9in wide (foot from heel to toe)
*3 x 25g ball = 108m/118yrds
Yarn amounts are based on average requirements and are approximate. You may wish to order an extra ball/skein to be sure you have sufficient yarn.
Materials Required:
You will need:
Set 4/5 DPN’s 3.5mm - 4mm , 15cm/6 in length approx.
Stitch holder
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Yarn approx. 310m/340yards total
Tension:
In stocking stitch using 3.5 mm (U.S 2-3) needles: 22sts x 30 rows in 10 x 10cm (4”x 4”) – adjust your needle size to match this tension.
*Tensions are provided should you wish to substitute an alternative yarn to that suggested by us. Please ensure you knit a tension square to check that the yarn is suitable as not all yarns will give a like for like result.
